We sat down at a table in Screamin’ Mimi’s, a popular pizza joint on Oglethorpe Ave, and hungrily awaited our supreme pizza. The girl who took our order had put me in good spirits with that friendly, casual attitude so in abundance in Savannah. Screamin’ Mimi’s seems to be a place where everyone has fun — the guys spinning our pizzas were happy to chat and joke with us, and the laid-back & slightly hip vibe is infectious.

And the good times got even better when our gigantic pizza arrived… I couldn’t believe the size, and asked the waitress if she seriously expected us to eat all that. “Yes”, was her amusingly deadpan reply. “I’ll refuse to give you a takeout box”.

We made an effort, but Screamin’ Mimi’s supreme mega-pizza humiliated us. It was delicious — huge, over-sized slices, dripping with cheese, peppers, sausage and onions. We each got through two and a half, then hoisted the white flag, and put the rest in the takeout box she was happy to provide, after all.
