Short-Term Stay in an Authentic Savannah House

Traveling to Savannah? You need this Book!

Consistently, the hardest part of our travel project is finding a house to inhabit for three months. We’re demanding! The places we rent have to be furnished, dog-friendly, affordable and central. We got lucky with our place in Oviedo, Spain, and really hit the jackpot here in Savannah.

Vacation Short Term Rental Savannah

Off Abercorn Street and slightly south of Forsyth Park, the place we stayed in while in Savannah is incredible. A huge, Colonial Revival house, with all the extras you could hope for — a large back yard, a screened-in porch, high-speed internet, beautiful wood floors, multiple fireplaces and incredible interior architecture. We discovered it a month before leaving Spain, when we were starting to get terrified about finding something. So when this house popped up, it seemed too good to be true. But it’s worked out perfectly.

The owner is a really interesting, nice guy who travels a lot — in fact, he was in Guatemala to learn Spanish during the months we’ve been in his place. He rents out the top floor and the carriage house to tenants. Since he’s so often away, spending a lot of time New York and LA, he’s interested in renting out the main floor to people who are looking to stay for an extended time, as we were. Honestly, if you’re hoping to spend more than a week or two in Savannah, you’ll want to do it in a house like this.

It’s an old house, and probably not for anyone who doesn’t want to deal with “old house” kinds of things, like jiggling the toilet handle. But for an authentic Savannah experience, on a beautiful road lined with oaks and Spanish moss, directly across from a church, within the Victorian area, and just minutes away from the Historic District, you can’t get much better than where we lived.

There’s a living room, dining room, kitchen and bedroom — all very large — and a smaller office. There’s also a downstairs storage area, with a washer/dryer, and the porch. The other tenants are all friendly and unintrusive … you hardly know they’re there. If you’d like more information, let us know via our contact form and we’ll put you in touch with the owner.

Hey! My friend lived here when he lived in Savannah for a year or so. It was a great space, beautiful property, and we loved going over there. What a small world!

Hi Brandi – just read your post and now wonder who your friend was who lived here! I’m the owner and we may know each other ;) And many thanks and much luck to Juergen and Mike for showcasing our amazing town! Richard

Richard, I am a native of Savannah, presently living in Los Angeles. It took my moving away to really appreciate Savannah, and maybe getting a bit older as well. I graduated from Saint Vincent’s Academy which is in the downtown area, and have always loved studying in the squares.
My parents are still there, living in Wilmington Park, which is where I also grew up, but I would love the experience of living in the historic district and be immersed in that experience.
We seem to have a bit in common. Upon graduating from St. Vincents, I went to New York to college, Hofstra University and now live in LA. I am also planning a trip to Guatemala for Spanish Immersion.
Would love to hear from you.

Wow – this is crazy. An other proof that the world isn’t that big after all ;) We are so happy we found this place. It really enhanced our Savannah experience.

Hello Richard! My husband and I had stopped by the house two or three times when Jordan lived there a year or two ago. We met him through a good, longtime friend and still keep in touch occasionally, though he’s back in New Mexico now. It certainly is a small world! You have a beautiful property.

Yes Jordan! Now you’ve reminded me I should give him a shout. He was a favorite tenant of mine and he made a great home while he was here. At some point I’m sure we’ll all meet somewhere in Savannah! Thanks for your comments ;)

My friend Tonya introduced me to this great blog (thanks, Tonya!) and now I want to visit Savannah, of course. We finish house and pet sitting in TN and will have a month between this sit and our next one (in the Pacific Northwest). This house and area looks wonderful…I will definitely be making some inquiries!
